Our adult psychological services are grouped under three categories: assessment, psychotherapy and consultation.
Assessments are careful, systematic approaches to identifying or ruling out problems. Research has shown that a careful assessment is the key to a successful intervention or consultation. Many times our assessments include psychological tests, such as the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS-IV) or the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI-II). The Assessment Center at Springfield Psychological Associates contains state of the art materials and methods including computerized technology.
Our Educational Testing, Learning Disability or ADD/ADHD Evaluations select the proper testing materials to accurately assess a person's strengths and weaknesses leading to more effective remedial services. These testing services may include the administration of intelligence tests, achievement tests, processing speed tests, memory tests, executive function tests, and both objective and projective personality tests.  We conduct valuations to determine whether special accomodations should be granted due to a learning disorder or disability. Our written reports have been used by colleges, professional schools (Law, Medicine, Psychology) and various testing organizations (College Board, LSAT, MCAT, ACT, Bar Examiners, Medical Boards). as documentation for testing accomodations
Psychotherapy is a generic term used to describe various forms of talk therapy.  One type of therapy does not suit everyone.  Some of our psychologists have advanced training in psychoanalysis and psychodynamic therapy, others in cognitive behavior therapy, and other in family therapy. We have worked with individuals, couples, families, teams and organizations. We have treated anxiety disorders, mood disorders (depression, bipolar disorder), post traumatic stress disorders, eating disorders, impulse disorders, performance problems and relationship difficulties. We also work with problems derived from shame, guilt, low self-esteem and lack of assertiveness. Our work helps others manage health related issues such as living a balanced lifestyle or controlling blood pressure. Together with parents, we help navigate the seas of child managment with siblings and acting out and non-compliance.
